A Day of Style, Care, and Community

January 18, 2025 | Pasadena, California

When tragedy strikes, it’s often our communities that come together to rebuild hope. Last weekend, My Big Sis’ Closet had the privilege of working with seven incredible girls who recently lost their homes in the devastating Altadena fire. These young women have faced unimaginable challenges, but their resilience and strength inspired us to create a special day just for them — filled with joy, beauty, and empowerment.
A Pop-Up Event Rooted in Community

To make this day truly special, we hosted our pop-up event at a welcoming home in Pasadena, creating a safe and familiar space for the girls to relax and connect. From the moment they arrived, we aimed to make them feel supported and celebrated. Our boutique-on-the-go was stocked with a carefully curated selection of clothing, helping the girls pick outfits that matched their unique styles and personalities. Watching their faces light up as they discovered pieces that made them feel confident was a powerful reminder of how transformative fashion can be.

Curly Hair Care, Confidence, and Creativity

At My Big Sis’ Closet, we know that embracing natural beauty is a cornerstone of self-confidence. That’s why we partnered with the legendary Kim Berry, renowned hairstyles to Prince, who volunteered her expertise to style the girls’ hair.

Each girl received personalized care and styling, along with curated curly hair kits packed with essentials to help them maintain and embrace their natural hair. It wasn’t just about hairstyles — it was about celebrating their individuality and reminding them how radiant they truly are.

A Day to Remember

The laughter, the smiles, and the energy of the day will stay with us for a long time. From picking out outfits to sharing stories and bonding over the TikTok ban, the event was a testament to the power of community, love, and support. It was a glimmer moment — that even in the face of loss, joy and confidence can shine through.

Gratitude and Looking Forward

We are incredibly grateful to the Jack and Jill Organization, Kim Berry, and everyone who helped make this event possible. Together, we created an experience these girls will carry with them as they continue to navigate this challenging time.

At My Big Sis’ Closet, we are committed to empowering young women through fashion, community, and care. This event is just one example of how we can uplift those in need and remind them of their incredible strength and beauty.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to create glimmer moments in our community
