A Story of Resilience and Community

January 14, 2025 | Culver City, California

At My Big Sis’ Closet, our mission goes beyond fashion — it’s about creating glimmer moments of hope, joy, and connection for those who need it most. Recently, we had the incredible opportunity to support Skye, a former coworker and dear friend, and her family as they faced unimaginable loss.

Skye, a vibrant and inspiring young woman in her 20s, and her mom, Sherrelle, lost their home and belongings in the devastating Palisades fire. Skye and I worked together at Lululemon in the Palisades Village, and like many others in the area, their family is navigating the overwhelming journey of rebuilding their lives.

Sherrelle’s heartfelt message to her friends and family captures the depth of their loss and the strength it takes to keep going:

“The devastation and trauma of losing everything in a fire — my home, my possessions, and my entire community — is unbearable, except for the knowledge that I am surrounded by your support.”

Connecting Hearts, Building Support

When we learned of their story, My Big Sis’ Closet knew we had to step in. We partnered with social media influencer Ang Wells, who generously donated an array of PR items — skincare, makeup, and haircare — and went shopping to pick out clothes, essentials, and even dog toys for their beloved pup Chili Dawg. Beyond donations, we wanted to build a support system and connect Skye with people who could offer ongoing encouragement and resources.

The day we brought Skye and Ang together was unforgettable. We welcomed them into our home, creating a safe and warm space for them to share their stories, tears, and laughter. It was a moment filled with love and understanding — a reminder that even in the darkest times, we can lean on one another for strength.

A Long Road, But Not Alone

As Sherrelle shared, the journey ahead is a heavy lift, but it’s made lighter by the kindness and generosity of a strong community. Witnessing Skye’s resilience and grace in the face of such devastation reminded us of why we do this work: to create connections, inspire hope, and remind those impacted by tragedy that they are never alone.

To everyone who has supported families like Skye’s — whether through donations, kind messages, or simply spreading the word — thank you. You are making a read difference.

Moving Forward Together

At My Big Sis’ Closet, we are committed to continuing this mission. Whether it’s through partnerships with influencers like Ang Wells or simply opening our doors to share a moment of connection, we will keep showing up for those in need of a little extra love.

This is only the beginning of Sky and Sherrelle’s rebuilding journey, but with the love and support of so many, their future is already shining brighter.

Thank you for being part of their story — and ours.
